Afternoon Tea

This weekend we are celebrating The Man's birthday. I really did not know what I wanted to do to mark the occasion, but after a bit of a search on Google I found that a local hotel do a proper Afternoon Tea every afternoon. I have always wanted to 'do' a proper Tea, so I dropped them an email and the table was booked.

The weather was perfect, a bit windy, but a really clear blue sky which meant that we had the most amazing views of the Thames valley from halfway up Richmond Hill. To make it even better, we were offered a table on the terrace, out of the wind, so could enjoy the weather and the views from the open, much more 'us'. 

I was so pleased with the Tea and how we were looked after, not too much attention, but just enough. Perfect.

Five Things I am Loving This Friday

I need to thank Fiona at Staring at the Sea for this idea; it is a straight lift as I think it is a wonderful idea and something that I hope will achieve two things. Firstly I hope it will give you an insight into what makes me tick and, secondly it should give me the spur to post on a more regular basis.


So here we go, Five Things I am Loving This Friday:

• that there is a Public Holiday to celebrate The Man's birthday. OK, I know this is not the real reason, but it is the best reason I can think of
• that after weeks of good weather, today was not the day that we had rain; I think a certain couple will be pleased, as will a few thousand people attending a certain event
• that my printer has started to work properly again
• Nails Inc Nail Varnish - a lot!!
• that I am a Royalist and proud of it

Easter Sunday BBQ

I know Easter is very late this year, but how strange, if nice, to have a BBQ in the evening and not need to be wearing thermals. We have originally planned to have it the day before, but the Met Office has issued a Weather Alert for extreme heavy rain, so we decided to postpone - there was rain, but not much.

Last night, however, was dry and sunny and warm, so we broke out the disposable BBQ and some kebabs and we were away. Add a couple of chilled beers and heaven was not far away.

Perfect.

One of our neighbours poked his head over the fence to see what was going on, very cute but I missed the photo, just a head and his front paws (didn't I mention he is a cat?).

The view from a moving train

There is something slightly odd going on with our weather at the moment. It is still only April, but the weather is amazing and set to continue over the Easter holidays, which is also amazing as it is rarely nice over Bank Holidays.

This picture looks a little hazy, but that is due to it being taken from a moving train with far from clean windows. What it is actually showing is that really sift light you tend to get early in the morning of a very hot day. We will see.

On a personal note, I just want to get through the day as quickly as possible so that I can enjoy the long weekend. So here's to a busy, and therefore, short day.

Is it just me that can see the bunny?

I was at a local garden centre today and seemed to be aware of something that no one else was, a very tall golden rabbit was sitting next to the Rosemary. Was it my I
imagination? Well I was the only one taking any notice if it.

Is this our summer?

Walking to the station after visiting a friend I was thinking what a wonderful evening it was. Then I wondered, is this going to be another year where we have an amazing April only to find that there is no real summer to follow. Or, is this the start of a really splendid summer, a hint of things to come.

I for one hope it is the latter. We had a tough winter, so here's hoping for a great summer to compensate.
